Middle management horrors
Many years ago I worked in a professional industry job and doing the project grind.
Then a middle management guy comes over and barks "why did you not call that guy ?". To which I replied "I did not know I was supposed to". I then called the guy, solved a bunch of boring stuff and continued working.
The next day another middle management guy came over and said "why did you contact that guy directly?" To which I replied "I was..." and then he continued "you never contact those guys, everything goes through me, okay ?" I said okay and got hammered that week.
Apparently non-programmers solve logical "problems" over the phone. Which means being on the phone is "work". And this then is “stealing my damn job” if you call the wrong people.

Programmers who do nine to five
... have a name. Junior management.
Coding can be a terrible lifestyle if you never excersise or eat healthy. The brain basically wants soda and pizza. And too much caffeine screws up the sleep cycle. So coders who get in at 10-12 might be working on complex algorithms. But most people just think they drink too much beer.

Compete.com is pretty good
Comparing website traffic with Compete.com. The primary website is not included in this though. Pretty good for indicating trends, but kinda useless when assessing real, day to day, traffic volume.
The Analytics data is only from this website. Normal traffic went from 30 uniques a day in 2009 to 150 in 2010 with short spikes of 2000-5000 uniques per day. 50 percent of traffic comes from search engines.

Begun, the next NeXT clone war has
Maybe I am repeating myself here. But Apple is fighting Google through proxy companies such as Adobe, Admob, Android and HTC. Going head to head is too dangerous for the stock value. So there is a lot of political speak and little direct action. Apple thinks Google is cloning their business model by proxy. And that cheap Chinese hardware with ad supported software threatens Apple more than Microsoft. Google Chrome OS and Android powered by Admob advertising becomes a problem when HTC is providing quality hardware.
Apple basically thinks Google is pulling a “NeXT clone” attack. Because touch based computing is not like Windows and Linux. It is a new paradigm filled with new business models. All powered by small mobile devices connected to the Internet and cloud (yuk... server side) services.
A new marked is slowly emerging. Mobile devices connected to credit cards. In Japan and Scandinavia this is old news. But some parts of America still uses checks (cheques). Now combine this with in-app purchases and curious teenagers.

Teppefall Labs - Why the Apple iPad has no Java or Flash

Google Adsense is Sony MiniDisk ATRAC3
This is probably obvious to many people now, but back when I wrote this I did not realize the truth. The reason Apple wants Flash off the iPad is because Apple wants the touch powered mobile advertising marked all for themselves. Apple wants to own interactive advertising on the iPhone, iPod and iPad.
The reason for this is because Adobe ported Flash 10 (FLEX/AIR) to Linux and then supported Google Chrome OS and Android. This, combined with free web based office tools from Google and Adobe pissed off Apple and they started moving into advertising. Adobe Flash on its own is not a problem, but when Google and Adobe started replacing customer conversion pipelines this is a direct attack on Apple's business. And since Microsoft was already in the advertising marked the timing was right. You could also argue that Apple wants more control over what ads are running.
Google Chrome OS with Flash support is much more dangerous than Java Applets. And Java terrified both Microsoft and Apple. So much so that Microsoft cloned the whole system and Apple added Java like functionality to Objective C. Basically Actionscript is a worse threat than Java. Because Java was something that Apple could add to their operating system as a feature. Chrome OS simply ignores Apple altogether. And Adobe had no problem supporting this anti-desktop (Apple/Microsoft/Ubuntu) platform where account, processing and data API lock-in replaces the desktop API lock-in. If successful Google Chrome OS will flood the marked with $200 tablets from Chinese manufacturers and replace Netbooks.
Apple was afraid of Sun Microsystems and got Google instead. A much worse opponent supported by advertising revenue. So Apple now wants millions of iPhone, iPod and iPad users watching their media rich ads. Because location is what powers mobile advertising and not search query keywords. Apple basically came to the conclusion that Google and Adobe powered advertising is obsolete on multi-touch Apple devices and they want to take over the entire marked. Apple is going iPod on their collective asses. Say hello to Apple stickiness and no more third party Flash tracker cookies. Now there is only one tracker. Apple.
Some even claim that Adwords is gamed by people with insider access. Just watch this video and forward to 48 minutes. There you will get a short story about how emailing “firstname at google dot com” results in no Adwords restrictions. If this is true, then Apple iAd might be an exciting new alternative. Some may even claim that Foursquare can be the next Lala. Because Apple iAd is about location based advertising. But this will only happen if Foursquare has some real customer aware technology. Location based check-ins are not hard to replicate and Apple has no shortage of paying customers or talented engineers.
Adobe pulled a Sun Java for the Cloud and forgot where they came from. Selling expensive Creative Suite software while promoting HTC, cheap Chinese cloning companies and Google is not something Steve Jobs finds amusing.

BREAKING NEWS - Google reconfigures 0,5 percent of computers
Google has come to the conclusion that most security lapses within Google are a direct result of so called ISV desktop software. The problem is not with the server side DRM of Google, but rather software that does not use some random, piece of shit, AJAX API.
In a stunning move the company that tried to murder Microsoft Office and Outlook with a rusty spoon is saying that Microsoft products are unsafe at any speed. And that everyone should use Google Chrome OS and Android instead since only "high IQ people" can understand Ubuntu and only rich smug people living on credit cards can use Mac OS X.
Microsoft's response so far has been "nu-uh".
PS
This was written on Ubuntu 10.4 Lucid Lynx, stored on Ubuntu Server and posted to the Internet with Mac OS X. My Windows Vista system has a broken power supply.
